Just to let you know.

The other day, we were making individual pizzas for supper, and Kat asked if she could have pesto on hers. Frank was very confused by this, having thought she said, "Pepto."
So if you're looking for new ideas for pizza toppings...

Day 29

1. Sorry, but I am really loving this weather. We really don't have enough winter around here most years.
2. Harrison tells me he's been playing quarters. The happy part is, his version does not involve beer.
3. My husband does not believe in the Laws Law of Laundry Propagation. This makes me laugh. Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha-ha.
4. I love it when squirrels hang upside-down to eat from the birdfeeders. I don't mind feeding the squirrels, because they earn it by being so entertaining.
5. "Touch of Gray," by the Grateful Dead.

Day 27

1. Coming up on one week with competent leadership.
2. When I'm at the computer, I have developed a habit of pulling my tee shirt up over my head like a hood. I don't know how or when this started, and I only do it at the computer. I hadn't thought much about it until Jeff asked me about it. It just feels kind of comfy, plus it seems to drive Jeff nuts, so what's my motivation to stop. I just hope I don't start doing this at work or something.
3. This.
4. I don't have anyplace I really have to go today.
5. Come to think of it, I don't really have anything tomorrow, either.

This isn't how I remember high school

My wonderful, beautiful, clever daughter, Kat, just scheduled her second semester classes. She is taking "The Secret Life of Plants" aka "SLOP," and something called, "This Class Sucks," which involves studies of vampire-related literature.
When I was her age, not only were the classes nowhere near this cool, but if they had attempted to offer a class called, "This Class Sucks," (whatever the content of the class) everyone from the teacher up to the superintendent probably would have been run out of town.

Day 26

1. More snow is coming.
2. I have a new lead on free/cheap lumber to repurpose for my raised beds.
3. Work is over for the week.
4. Jeff has another source of free firewood.
5. This.

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Day 25

1. Really good class in "Christianity's Family Tree." This month's topic was the Orthodox Churches.
2. The little kids sang in church today. Well, they stood in front of the congregation and, mostly, mumbled.
3. Our last week teaching Sunday School for a while.
4. We were EARLY for Sunday school today. Amazing.
5. I will be in bed before 10 tonight.

Day 24

1. Not working on a Saturday for the second week in a row.
2. Fish sticks for dinner- one of my favorite "Not really a food" foods.
3. Fudgesicles for dessert-yes, we really are all about nutrition around here, especially on the weekends.
4. Wasting an afternoon channel surfing.
5. We get to join the Sippel CSA.

Day 23

1. Toast and hot chocolate.
2. Mint tea.
3. All bills have been paid.
4. "Dexter, season 1."

3. Icees after the concert. Yes, Icees. In January.
4. Hope, the Youth Ed. director from our church, came to the concert to see Frank.
5. The boys still got to bed at a not terribly late hour, even with the concert, Icees, and stuff.

"Big Disapointment"

I was crushed when I remembered that "Big Love" is on HBO, which is not included in our cable package. I will try to go on, difficult as it will be. Sniff.

4. I love the technique of peeling bananas from the flower end.
5. I am amused that they are putting up displays of grills and patio furniture at work. 'Cause this weather makes me think, "Cookout!"

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Day 15

1. This quote:
"So, then the ambulance and the fire chief's car came."
Any story that includes this sentence is a sure winner.
2. I'm grateful I know Heather, and not just because it allowed me to read the aforementioned post. Although that is a big plus.
3. Snow that squeaks when you walk through it.
4. We now have cable, so today I watched "The Daily Show."
5. "Big Love" will start up again soon, and I will be able to watch it.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Day 14

1. Snowmen
2. Non-anthropomorphic snow sculptures of all types.
3. I love that kids will build snowmen even when there isn't really enough snow, so that the resulting product is all grotty and covered with leaves and sticks and mud.
4. I love to watch snowmen melt, day by day. I love the way they change shape and lean toward the sun.
5. Snowmen, Calvin-style.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Friday, January 9, 2009

Waaahhh!

We all knew we hadn't heard the last of Sarah Palin. Now she's whining about her "exploitation" by Tina Fey. 'Cause ya know, she's the only politician who has ever been skewered by snl.

Thinking up new titles is getting to be the toughest part

1. I'm glad I finally figured out that link thing, although I don't actually have one to use here.
2. I'm glad I have good friends like Emilia, who helped me get the link thing working, along with pictures and videos and, well, a blog.
3. I'm glad I have good friends like Emilia, who will pick my daughter up when seeing her walking in the cold, leading to unexpected goofiness.
4. I'm glad I don't have any errands this morning, cause it's cold and I can stay in the house.
5. My Loony Tunes sweatshirt.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Today's list

1. This. And this.

2. Homemade chocolate sauce. I've attempted this before, but have never really been happy with the results. I don't know why it worked this time, this recipe can't be that different than any other I've tried.

3. This morning I got clearance to do more walking without the boot. At my next appointment, I might even get permission to take an actual walk.

4. I get to go buy new tennis shoes for work. The pair I had been wearing are getting pretty broken down, and the doc strongly suggested that I have a new pair, one that might offer some actual support, before I try to work without the boot. I love new sneakers.

5. After about a month of experimentation, I'm getting the hang of the five minute a day bread. At first I wasn't really happy with the texture, but this most recent batch is good. Mind you, it's not like any of the previous batches ever sat around growing mold. The whole family has enthusiastically supported my efforts, even to the point of suggesting that two loaves a day might be called for. You know, in the name of research.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Day 6

1. This month's Christian Ed. committee meeting is OVER! (Can I get a whoop whoop?) And maybe this will be the month I actually turn the minutes in before the church secretary has to email me asking for them.
2. Homemade mushroom soup-a new discovery. I had always figured it would be too much work for something the whole family would refuse to touch. Turns out everyone likes it.
3. Any recipe everyone likes.
4. Two whole weeks before I have to attend another committee meeting.
5. Thirteen days, thirteen hours, forty-six minutes until Bush checks out.

It's been a while since we've had a video

Good Weather for Ducks

Monday, January 5, 2009

Today's list is on time!

1. Tomorrow is Tuesday. Which is Saturday.
2. I had two weeks with the kids at home, just hanging out.
3. The kids are back in school. Yes, I used this yesterday, but I'm THAT happy.
4. I love cool, clean sheets on the bed.
5. Greg, earlier today, asked if I was feeling any better, then rubbed my tummy and asked if I wanted him to bring me the Pepto. Love that kid.

Not a late as you might think

Although it is Monday as I am posting this, I did write this list yesterday. On paper, with a pen, if you can imagine. My son was using the computer to work on a school project, so I was left with old-school technology.

1. When I said I was sick, they let me come home from work without any hassles. Maybe they were afraid I'd be sick on them; anyway, I got to come home and sleep.
2. Watching the cats play amuses me.
3. The kids go back to school tomorrow.
4. Burning candles make me happy.
5. Masterpiece Theatre-even when I keep doing off in the middle.

Sunday, January 4, 2009

Five more things

1. I like the people I work with.
2. I can sometimes bring home lovely compost I've rescued from the trash at work.
3. Lately, Jeff has been able to drive me to and from work, so I haven't had to trek across the parking lot.
4. Jeff's friend Tony helped fix my van, yet again.*
5. The cats are doing their insane, chase each other around the house in the middle of the night thing.

*May not really qualify, as it is definitely NOT a small thing.

Friday, January 2, 2009

NOW it's officially January 2.

1. I figured out how to put a link in the previous post.
2. I got to leave work 25 minutes early.
3. My worm bin is all set up and awaiting the worms.
4. Breakfast in bed.
5. Breakfast made by someone other than me-go, Jeff.

Happy Freaking New Year.

I'm kind of cheating on this, because I never did get my post added yesterday. I wanted to start this "365 Days of Grace in Small Things" on January 1, 'cause I'm that anal about this kind of thing. Starting on January 2 would mess with my head too much, so this is the post I meant to do yesterday. Pretend it's dated Jan. 1.

1. Pork roast and sauerkraut for dinner. Mmmmm.
2. No place in particular to go today.
3. Time to play "Operation" with Gregory.
4. Playing "Treehouse" with Gregory, and having him beat me 6 out of 8 rounds. 5. Frank and Greg slept late after staying up till midnight last night.

And by the way, yes, I realize that as part of the whole "appreciate life, value the little things" plan, I should let go of the idea that I must start on January 1. But I can't. So there.
